Searching for and Placing Holds on Serials

Searching and Placing Holds for Serials – PDF with all screenshots

Update, August 15, 2013: Beginning with August 2013,  BPL branches have begun to check in their circulating serials in Polaris.  Branches will discontinue creating OTF records for serials dated August 1, 2013 forward.  Branch staff are working on withdrawing all serials older than their retention periods.

Patrons and staff will be able to place holds on specific issues of periodicals.  A hold can be placed once an issue has been received in the system.   There is no “advance ordering” of periodicals.

Once you have selected a patron and saved the request, you should see the box below.   Make sure “Request the first available copy of one of the listed items”  is selected then highlight the correct volume and issue.

If you see the box below it means there aren’t any items checked in for that title.   You may not place a request at this time.

Serials training is continuing through the end of September 2013.   By October 1, 2013, all periodicals dated back to August 1, 2013 should be checked in.
